Installation Guide

DendroMap Explorer features an intelligent setup wizard that automatically configures your hierarchical data. The extension works as a dashboard extension and provides both automatic and manual configuration options.

Step 1: Configure Tableau Server/Online

Your Tableau Server administrator needs to allow the extension:

1. Navigate to Settings → Extensions in Tableau Server/Online
2. Click “Add URL” and enter: https://dendromap-explorer.netlify.app/
3. Configure security settings:
   • Full data access: Deny
   • User prompts: Hide

This ensures the extension can only access data you explicitly provide while maintaining security.

Step 2: Get the Manifest File

Contact the developer to receive the DendroMap Explorer manifest file (.trex). This file contains metadata about the extension and is required by Tableau for secure loading.

Step 3: Prepare Your Data

1. Create a new worksheet in your Tableau workbook
2. Add your hierarchical dimension fields (e.g., Region → Country → City)
3. Add at least one measure field for analysis
4. The extension will automatically detect and configure your hierarchy structure

Note: Unlike previous versions, you no longer need to manually configure Measure Values - the extension handles field detection automatically.

Step 4: Add to Dashboard

1. Create a new dashboard or open an existing one
2. Drag your prepared worksheet onto the dashboard
3. You can minimize the worksheet view as it serves as a data source

Step 5: Install the Extension

1. From the dashboard’s Objects panel, drag an Extension object
2. Select “Access Local Extensions” and choose your manifest file (.trex)
3. The configuration wizard will open automatically
4. Choose your worksheet and configure display options
5. Click Save to complete setup

The extension will automatically analyze your data structure and provide optimal configuration suggestions. You can always reconfigure by clicking the extension menu and selecting “Configure”.
